Tai Chi Chuan is one of the most popular Chinese "soft" martial arts around the world, and the Yang style is the most common variant of this art. In the twentieth century, however, the Yang style gradually became more of a recreational gymnastics than a system of hand-to-hand combat. Yang Junming, a world-famous Qigong and Wushu master, describes Yang Taiji as it was created in his new book. This complete "long form", transmitted through a long chain of disciplic succession, differs significantly from the modernized and simplified varieties of taiji taught everywhere and described in the literature. For this reason, experts in Wushu and Qigong are obliged to familiarize themselves with this work. But if you are not a specialist and just want to have a clear mind and a strong, but “liberated” body, this book is still for you! The author starts with elementary stances and movements and gradually walks you through the entire “form,” explaining the technical nuances, healing effects, and—if you’re interested—the combat applications of each move. Correct breathing is also described. The book includes a qigong complex necessary for understanding the “inner side” of taiji movements. Explanations of the techniques are accompanied by a huge number of photographs and are preceded by a good overview of the history and theory of taiji.
