The book publishes the first Russian translation of one of the most important sources on the history of legislation and the judicial system in the ancient Chinese Qin and Han empires - “Zouyanshu” (“Collection of judicial inquiries”). This text, written on bamboo strips, was discovered during excavations of a burial from the early Han period (202 BC - 9 AD) in the town of Zhangjiashan in the territory of modern Hubei province. The publication is accompanied by the publication of a facsimile text and a study of the social and political aspects of Qin-Han judicial procedure. The appendices provide a commentary translation of two procedural statutes from an early Han legal code found in a Zhangjiashan burial.
