The fictionalized chronicle “The Tale of the Rajas of Pasai” (Hikayat Raja Pasai) is the earliest of the Malay chronicles, describing the events of the second half of the 13th - mid-14th centuries. It is dedicated to the history of the North Sumatran principality of Pasey Samudra: its founding, the adoption of Islam by its rulers, and relations with neighboring states (Siam and Majapahit). Mythological motifs and legends are intertwined in the chronicle with historically reliable data.
