The fictionalized chronicle “The Tale of the Rajas of Pasai” (Hikayat Raja Pasai) is the earliest of the Malay chronicles, describing the events of the second half of the 13th - mid-14th centuries. It is dedicated to the history of the North Sumatran principality of Pasey Samudra: its founding, the adoption of Islam by its rulers, and relations with neighboring states (Siam and Majapahit). Mythological motifs and legends are intertwined in the chronicle with historically reliable data. The book may be of interest not only to specialists, but also to everyone interested in the history and culture of the medieval East.
