The celebrated Victorian author Alfred Tennyson (1809–1892) suffered critical persecution in the twentieth century, which nevertheless could not erase the significance of his poetry in world literature. Tennyson's epic poem about King Arthur, “Idylls of the King,” gave rise to a real “Arthuromania” in English art, which has not subsided to this day. Unfortunately, the Russian reader knows Tennyson's name rather than his poems. Thanks to V. Kaverin, millions of readers remember the line from his “Ulysses”: “Fight and seek, find and not give up,” and poetry lovers hear Mandelstam’s exclamation: “Lady Godiva, goodbye... I don’t remember, Godiva...” This book, in fact, it is the first serious publication of Alfred Tennyson’s poems in Russia. It was prepared by the famous poet and researcher of English-language poetry G. M. Kruzhkov in collaboration with young translators.
