“Jean Ray is the embodiment of Edgar Poe, adapted to our era,” said the greatest of the science fiction writers who wrote in French after Jules Verne, Maurice Renard, about the author of this book, which gave the most accurate of all possible definitions of the work of Jean Marie Raymond de Kremer (1887–1964), who wrote under many pseudonyms, the most famous of which were Jean Ray, Harry Dixon and John Flanders. The border that separated the creativity of these “personalities” is almost invisible; it happened that Flanders' work was republished under Ray's name, and it happened vice versa; because of this, it becomes possible to combine some stories and short stories under one cover, without particularly thinking about who is in front of us - Ray or Flanders. Starting the second ten volumes of the collected works of the “Belgian Edgar Allan Poe”, the publishing house specially thanks the keepers of his archive and personally Mr. Andre Verbruggen, who provided texts for translation that were practically unknown in the writer’s homeland.
