Among the numerous works of the Belgian writer Jean Ray (aka Raimon Jean Marie de Cremer), a special place is occupied by works dedicated to a character named Harry Dixon. In the 1930s, a multi-volume epic about his adventures appeared. Ray, at the request of the publisher, who needed a new Sherlock Holmes, created the image of the American detective. Over 9 years, 178 issues were published, at intervals of either twice a month or once every two months. The series dedicated to Harry Dixon consists of 99 short novels. including 44 fantasy, 7 science fiction and 48 with detective or spy plots, as well as about four dozen short stories and novellas.
