This book is a continuation of many years of work begun at the USSR Academy of Sciences in 1939 to create a complete academic translation into Russian of the Mahabharata, the most important ancient Indian literary monument. Dronaparva, or the Book of Drona, is the seventh book of the Mahabharata. It describes the tragic events associated with the continuation of hostilities after the defeat of Bhishma, the supreme military leader of the Kauravas. The events relating to the entire great battle of the Mahabharata, which consists of a series of 18 battles that took place over 18 consecutive days, are devoted to four books of the epic, namely: Bhishmaparva, Dronaparva, Karnaparva and Shalyaparva. Of these, Dronaparva is the most extensive and is almost exclusively a book of battles.
The book cover is designed in the style of the “Literary Monuments” series, but it was published independently, outside the series.
Catalogue number 376a , the book is made under the LP, but not a monument: there is no 2nd page with the words “Literary Monuments”.
