Witold Gombrowicz (1904–1969) is an outstanding Polish writer. Through the grotesque, he frees the individual from those wild conventions with which the crowd always and everywhere trains, tames it, destroying uniqueness and creativity. Gombrowicz is one of those difficult, elitist writers who await congenial readers.
