Ачебе майстерно описує процеси, що відбуваються в традиційних громадах, показуючи, як колоніальна адміністрація, незважаючи на свої добрі наміри, насправді лише поглиблювала розкол між народом та його культурою. Роман "Людина і народу" доповнює цю картину, викриваючи політичні маніпуляції тих, хто, здавалося б, повинен був стати захисниками народу, але насправді лише продовжують спадщину колонізаторів. Хоча переклад тексту іноді може бути не зовсім точним, це не заважає насолоджуватися глибиною думок автора та його вмілому використанню мови.
