The novels of the largest Nigerian prose writer tell about the colonial past and the present day of an independent African country. This edition includes two novels by Charles Achebe “Arrow of God” and “Man and the People”. The first novel shows the hidden process of breaking the seemingly unshakable the traditional way of life of the African community, as well as the complete inability of representatives of the British colonial administration to understand the people whom they ineptly rule and whom they pretend to introduce to the “benefits of civilization.” In the second, political upstarts who were nurtured by the colonialists and found themselves in power after their departure are exposed. National problems cannot be solved by means inherited from the oppressors - this is the main idea of the writer.
