This collection includes works by Matsuo Basho from different years, capable of helping the reader get a clear and distinct idea of the style of the man who actually personally created the genre that was to become (and forever remain) a unique symbol of Japanese poetry - haiku. Haiku, which before it was a purely folk, comic, richly rough poetic genre - and which he turned into a sparklingly sharpened, technically ideally clear poetic form, in which landscape and philosophical lyrics merge into something single - so that pictures of nature become a kind of illustration for philosophical thought. Basho's poetry is simple and at the same time complex, full of subtle associations, elegant images and hints that are almost intuitive to understand, harmonious and full of purely Zen Buddhist depth of thought - in a word, it is one of the greatest literary masterpieces of mankind, not subject to the passage of time.
