Книга пронизана теплом і ностальгією, а опис провінційного містечка настільки живий, що здається, ніби ти сам гуляєш його вулицями, відчуваєш запахи літа і чуєш звуки природи. Сіммонс вміло грає з темою зла, яке ховається за звичайними речами, і це надає твору додаткової глибини. Незважаючи на деякі недоліки в перекладі, які, на жаль, можуть траплятися, це не заважає насолоджуватися цим чудовим твором.
