The book presents Martin Heidegger’s seminal lecture “What is Metaphysics?” and chapters from a course of lectures on Nietzsche. Particular attention is invariably given to the very foundations of metaphysics, even when the discussion seems to be about something else, so the lectures give some insight into Heidegger's position and philosophy as a whole. The book is not intended for a wide range of readers, even for lovers of complex mental constructions, if only because to delve into the philosophy of this remarkable thinker, intellectual effort alone is not enough; existential efforts are also necessary. However, for those who cannot help but think about the meaning and essence of their own life, of existence in general, these lectures can be very useful, exciting and interesting. The 2nd edition includes as an appendix an article by Elisabeth Förster-Nietzsche “On the creation of Thus Spoke Zarathustra.”
