“Camera” continues the autobiographical cycle of Günter Grass, begun by the book “Onion of Memory”. However, this time the writer prefers to talk about himself and his family not on his own behalf—he delegates this right to his children. Grass imagines that, at his request, they are preparing a gift for him for his eightieth birthday, for which, over the course of several months, they alternately gather with one or the other, recording their memories on a tape recorder. A key role in these stories is played by the extraordinary photographer Maria Rama, who remained a close friend of Grasse and his family until her death. This book is dedicated to her memory.
