The book contains, for the first time translated into Russian, a complete course of lectures on Cervantes’s novel, given by V. Nabokov at Harvard University in 1951–1952. A remarkable property of Nabokov’s literary works is the combination of his gift of writing with the thoughtfulness of a grateful reader. Severe and gentle, unbearably biased, but never boring, Nabokov interprets Cervantes’ masterpiece in a new way - he jokes and is sad, accompanying his students, and now readers, into the strange, although seemingly so familiar, world of Don Quixote. The text is supplemented detailed comments by Professor Fredson Bowers, the American bibliographer who collected and edited this volume of lectures on Nabokov's manuscripts.
