Irina Odoevtseva is known primarily as a poet and author of the memoirs “On the Banks of the Neva” and “On the Banks of the Seine.” In 1922 she left Russia and returned only in 1987. She, the last representative of the distant Silver Age, had a chance to see her books published in the USSR. The return turned out to be triumphant - as if as a reward for all the hardships of emigrant life. In exile, Irina Odoevtseva continued to write poetry, but also turned to fiction and gained fame as the author of novels and short stories. Odoevtseva’s prose, which became a significant phenomenon outside Russia, remained unfamiliar to Russian readers for a long time. Each novel or story is interesting in its own way, and in each of them one feels the writer’s belonging to a new cultural reality - Russian Paris, yearning for irretrievably gone times and looking hopefully to the future.

The text of the book was translated from the original language using an artificial intelligence program.
