Martin Heidegger (1889–1976) is sometimes called the largest European philosopher after Plato, which speaks not only of the depth of his breathing, but also of a steady return throughout his life to “holistic” thinking, which is generally perceived as a kind of fusion of philosophical method with poetic. And in fact, the texts of the late Heidegger increasingly seem to be permeated with the melody and rhythms of poetic “enchantment.” Again and again his attention is attracted by poets with an impeccable sense of the sacred basis of existence, especially Hölderin, Rilke, Trakl. The philosopher calls texts about poets this way: “this is a confidential conversation between thinking and poetry, and precisely because they both have an exceptionally special, albeit different, interaction with language.
