The first version of the story "Litter" ("הסימן") was published in 1944. Its translation into Russian, made by N. Faingold, is known. This much expanded version is the second to appear in Agnon's collection of stories "Fire and Trees" ("הָאֵשׁ וְהָעֵצִים", Bereshit 22:7) in 1962. The story is written in the form of a monologue and placed in the collection together with another monologue story - “Etrog” - in the part “Im atsmi” (“With myself”). Translation of the story - Ontario14, translation of poems by R. Shlomo ibn Gvirol - Ernst Levin.
The text of the book was translated from the original language using an artificial intelligence program. For the most part, the translation of the text is of very high quality, but in some cases, due to the imperfection of the technology, there may be incorrect phrase translations in the text, as well as single words and expressions may not be translated.
