In Germany, the design department of the naval department, headed by Vice Admiral Eiksted, turned out to be quite ready to develop a new dreadnought project. The first series of the “Nassau” type was taken as the base one. As such, the second series of the “Helgoland” type was not something special in comparison with the first, representing its consistent and systematic development. But, nevertheless, from a technical point of view, these ship projects are somewhat different. And first of all, these differences, in addition to the larger size of the body, are caused by a different location of the power plant. Another important distinguishing feature was the significant change in weight loads due to the transition to a new, larger caliber of main artillery. Design work was carried out without delays during the period 1907-08. The department's designers developed the final design of the second series dreadnought, which was the next logical step in the development of the Nassau-class dreadnoughts.
