The new edition of “The Philosophy of the Name” by the outstanding Russian philosopher Alexei Fedorovich Losev (1893 - 1988) is for the first time published with such extensive scientific support, which aims to facilitate the reader’s penetration into the little-studied world of this book, which is a real encyclopedia of “complete knowledge.” The conceptual dictionary proposed in the appendix to this publication, compiled according to the “symphony” principle, contains the most significant terms of the “Philosophy of the Name” along with the main contexts of their use. The page-by-page commentary and introductory article provides a reference to the general historical, philosophical, linguistic, theological and biographical context of this book, as well as the experimental foundations of the concept developed in it. Since the most important terms of the “Philosophy of Name” (number, eidos, symbol, myth, name, word, essence, energy, etc.) and its philosophical syntax are used in a similar sense in other works of A.F. Losev, then the research materials presented in this edition can serve as a kind of hermeneutical key for mastering the contents of not only this book (one of the most important, if not the most important in the entire work of Losev the thinker), but also his creative heritage as a whole - both the first and and the second periods, including historical-philosophical, philosophical-theological, scientific-philosophical works and even the author’s fiction.
