Li Po (701–763) was more than just a great Chinese poet. This is a cult figure, a unique phenomenon, mythologized by his contemporaries, who called him the Celestial. Mysticism, meditative oblivion, autumn sadness, bitter awareness of the depravity and destruction of the modern poet’s civilization, which has moved away from the Purity of the primordial Tao—these are the motives of the poems included in this collection. Written in different years, but mainly in the Yangtze River basin, saturated with the spirit of the mythological Chu culture, they can arouse interest not only among specialists, but also among a wide range of lovers of both the deep spirituality of the East and the sincerity of Russian poetry, to which I strived to be in harmony translator at work.
