The anthology, prepared by the famous orientalist and translator of Japanese poetry Alexander Dolin, includes classic works of famous poets of the 7th–16th centuries: Kakinomoto Hitomaro, Yamabe Akahito, Ariwara Narihira, Sugawara Michizane, Ono no Komachi, Ki no Tsurayuki, Sosei , Henjo, Fujiwara no Teika, Saigyo, Dogen and others, constituting the golden fund of Japanese and world literature. The collection includes songs of waka (tanka and choka), samples of lyrical and didactic poetry of kanshi and “strung stanzas” of renga, as well as Zen poetry, in which the subtlety of an artistic attitude is combined with the philosophical depth of constant self-knowledge. The book recreates the historical panorama of the poetry of the Japanese Middle Ages in all its genre and stylistic diversity and introduces the reader to many names previously unknown in our country. The publication is supplied with an introductory article and notes. The publishing design is preserved in PDF A4 format.
