Michel Montaigne (1533–1592) is a French writer and humanist philosopher of the Renaissance, who had a great influence on world literature. The book “Essays” contains Montaigne’s subtle observations on the secrets of the human soul, imaginative essays with special French humor on various topics: about government, wars, peculiarities of behavior and relationships between people (“About cruelty”, “About fear”, “About drunkenness”, “About freedom of conscience”). Aphorisms for all occasions and reasons for reflection are in the famous “Experiments.”
