The seminal work of the German philosopher Karl Jaspers “Philosophy” (1932) is published in Russian for the first time. The third book is devoted to thinking about transcendence. It is not given to a person directly, but is revealed in “ciphers”. Metaphysics appears as the interpretation of these codes. The philosopher considers philosophical, theological and existential ways of “approaching transcendence”; analyzes what could be the cipher of existence, and how it is possible to read this cipher. The radical cipher of the transcendental is the disappearance, the “collapse” of historical existence, which also in its own way reveals transcendental reality to man. This theme of existential “collapse” introduces eschatological issues into Jaspers’ philosophical theology.
