The works of Karl Jaspers on psychopathology combined in this book , with the exception of the dissertation “Nostalgia and Crime” and the essay “Verid Realizations,” were first published in the Journal of General Neurology and Psychiatry and are available only in libraries. They appeared partly immediately before, partly together with the first concept of General Psychopathology in 1913, which, in the form of a fourth, completely revised edition in 1948 (now in its seventh edition), celebrates this year the 50th anniversary of its appearance. This anniversary coincides with the 80th birthday of its author. These memorable dates for the publishing house were the reason to release this collection of works related to the field of “General Psychopathology”. If “General Psychopathology” is considered the systematic fundamental book of psychiatry of modern times (which Jaspers, at that time the youngest discipline of medical research, built from predominantly clinical empirics to the rank of independent research practice), then the work preparing it is given fundamental methodological importance. In them Jaspers developed the main methodological features of both his scientific and, in the initial stage, his philosophical way of thinking. To be able to trace and evaluate both aspects through their first decisive steps is necessary for understanding the entire life work of Jaspers. This book, published on his 80th birthday, is intended to contribute to this.
