The book by one of the largest representatives of German existentialism is dedicated to the presentation of the creative biography and main ideas of Friedrich Nietzsche. According to the author, the frequent inconsistency of Nietzsche’s logic, the aphorism and fragmentation of his formulations on a superficial reading can produce an absurd and unintelligible impression, but they are the ones that conceal a certain meaning. Nietzsche's paradoxical logic and characteristic set of expressive means, requiring close study, lead the thoughtful reader to the borderline experience of human existence. Only from this extreme position is the final source of human existential possibilities revealed. The work consists of three parts. The first reconstructs the main milestones of Nietzsche's biography. The second undertakes a thematic analysis of the main headings of his philosophy. The last part demonstrates how Nietzsche himself understands his philosophy, and how subsequent philosophers understand it. The work is built on the material of Nietzsche’s entire creative heritage, including his early philological works, posthumously published fragments and correspondence. Each position is confirmed by numerous quotations and references to specific texts. K. Jaspers’ book is a classic propaedeutic in the study of Nietzsche’s philosophizing and is traditionally included in lists of literature on this topic. Designed for philosophers, cultural experts, literary critics, and all readers interested in philosophy and cultural history.
