The fundamental work of the German philosopher Karl Jaspers “Philosophy” (1932) is published in Russian for the first time. The first book of “Philosophy” is devoted to problems arising in the development and on the boundaries of scientific, that is, objective and objectifying knowledge, which only due to its objectivity can serve the purposes of practical orientation. “The world” as an objective reality and a living subjective existence, the possibility of a unified picture of the “world”, the diversity and system of world-orienting sciences, criticism of abstract scientism and idealism, the sources and way of existence of philosophy, its relationship with positive science, religion and art - these are some of the key themes of this book. Of particular interest is the preface to the book, “Introduction to Philosophy,” dedicated to elucidating the purpose, methodology and structure of existential philosophizing in the sense of Jaspers.
