In this edition, the complete collection of poetic works of François Villon is presented without any exceptions, based on the edition: François Villon. Oeuvres. Editées par Auguste Longnon. Quatrième edition revue par Lucien Poulet. P., Champion, 1932. The translators - primarily those who carried out almost complete translations of Villon's legacy by F. Mendelssohn, Y. Kozhevnikov and Y. Korneev - took into account the comments and clarifications of many other publications; six of the ballads written by Villon in the Coquillard jargon first appeared in the edition of Leve in 1489, in later editions their number reached eleven; although their content cannot be unambiguously interpreted, E. Kassirova, using the well-known experiment of L. Gumilyov and S. Snegov (on translating a scientific-historical text into Blatnaya and Vorovskaya), completed a complete translation of all eleven “ballads in slang” for our publication. The main text uses a translation by Yu. Kozhevnikov; the notes contain variant translations of almost all of Villon’s ballads performed by other poets.
