The novel by Norwegian writer, Nobel Prize winner Sigrid Undset (1882–1949), never before published in Russian, is based on the medieval epic about King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table. Historical material, as always with the writer, is only the background against which the tragic drama plays out, the fatal love triangle - King Arthur - Guinevere - Lancelot. In this book, the author appears in a new capacity - as an attentive researcher and interpreter of the legends of the Arthurian cycle. Preserving the traditional form of a chivalric romance, the writer raises eternal problems for us: friendship, loyalty, love, the relationship between God and man, perseverance in the face of death. Undset masterfully depicts the psychological experiences of the characters and their fateful end.
