The book “On My Fall” by Marcel Jouandeau (1888-1979) was published a few months before the outbreak of World War II. However, it is dedicated to internal battles - with temptations so strong that it is impossible to resist them. The soul, in which the darkest desires rub their sides like sheep in the depths of the stable at night, resigns itself to the inevitability of sin and orders to rush headlong into the unknown.
In someone you can immediately recognize all the symptoms of an obvious and terrible vice; but personality, soul - how to comprehend it, how to define it? Is she an ally of this vice or suffers from it? But the attitude of the soul to what seems to fill it is precisely what is most important.
I happened to reach strange compromises with myself in committing sacrileges, which, perhaps, were essentially sacred rites. There is nothing more sacred to me than my Sin - I sacrificed everything to it, and the constant calculations to which it obliges me please me because of their very complexity.
