Veche Publishing House presents to readers the book by Sergei Petrovich Melgunov, “The Fate of Emperor Nicholas II after Abdication,” dedicated to the most complex conflicts that ultimately led to the death of the royal family in Yekaterinburg in July 1918. Melgunov is the most prominent historian of the Russian diaspora, and perhaps of all Russian science of the twentieth century on these issues. Before the revolution, he was a recognized authority on the history of the Russian church, especially the Old Believers and sectarianism. Under his editorship, multi-volume collective works were published, which are the pride of Russian historiography: “The Great Reform of February 19, 1861” (7 volumes), “Patriotic War and Russian Society” (6 volumes), “Freemasonry in its past and present” (3 volumes). In 1913, together with V.I. Semevsky Melgunov organized the largest Russian historical magazine “The Voice of the Past” and edited it for 10 years (65 volumes were published). This book, along with the books “The Legend of a Separate Peace. The Eve of the Revolution”, “March Days of 1917” was part of Melgunov’s trilogy “Revolution and the Tsar”, full of the living breath of time chronicling the rebellious years that turned the fate of Russia. This chronicle is distinguished by the richest use of historical sources, an objective assessment of what happened, and the journalistic heartbeat of the author's thoughts. The book was published in the author's edition preserving the style, abbreviations and punctuation features of the original.
