Veche Publishing House for the first time in Russia presents to readers the fascinating trilogy “Revolution and the Tsar” by Sergei Petrovich Melgunov, dedicated to the most complex collisions that led to the February events, the October Revolution and the establishment of the “red dictatorship” in the country. The trilogy includes the books “The Legend of a Separate Peace. The Eve of the Revolution”, “March Days of 1917”, “The Fate of Emperor Nicholas II after Abdication. Historical and critical essays." The author finished the second book - the work "March Days of 1917" during the Second World War. Part of the book was published in 1950-1954. in the emigrant newspaper “Vozrozhdenie”, and it was published in full in Paris in 1961. Like Melgunov’s other works, this book is striking primarily with its meticulous analysis of the widest range of sources that were available to the historian. Reconstructing the chronicle of the February Revolution literally hour by hour, Melgunov not only raised the entire layer of published documents and memoirs, but also personally interviewed dozens of participants in the events, starting this work in Russia (before the deportation in 1922) and continuing in exile. The result is a fascinating study, in which not only the “living chronicle” of the March days seethes, but also numerous myths, wittingly or unwittingly created by participants in bygone events, are dispelled. The book was published in the author’s edition, preserving the style, abbreviations and punctuation features of the original.
