Kiki is going through a difficult time. She became quite an adult, and without even noticing, she began to look at life like an adult. She now rarely allows herself childish antics or girlish whims. And it seems that nothing has changed, and she is still the same witch Kiki, the darling of the city of Koriko, but... She has ceased to be his miracle. Her magical flights over the city turned into everyday reality. The witch cat Jiji behaves like an ordinary cat, and Kiki finds it increasingly difficult to understand him. But now the witch’s broom no longer cuts through the heavenly heights, but sweeps away fallen leaves, like an ordinary broom. And it became more and more difficult to take off, and more and more often bitterness or annoyance rose in the witch’s soul. And Kiki felt that her magic seemed to have weakened. How to heal magic? How can people return their former delight from meeting a miracle? Eiko Kadono wrote her first stories about Kiki in 1985. Inspired by the success and numerous literary awards in Japan, she continued the story of the young witch - to the delight of fans, among whom was the great Hayao Miyazaki, who created his 1989 animated masterpiece based on Kadono’s books. And in 2014, a full-length feature film was released. In 2018, Eiko Kadono received the Hans Christian Andersen Award for best children's writer.
