The witch Kiki has been living in the seaside town of Koriko for four years. Here she began an independent life, here she set up a delivery service, achieved recognition from the townspeople, experienced many exciting adventures and made friends. But lately Kiki began to notice strange irritability and resentment. It seems to her that no one cares about herself. That she is considered a city curiosity or something of a ribbon for the gifts she delivers. And then Kiki’s friend, Tombo, did not return home for the holidays from his new school, preferring a solo expedition to the mysterious Mount Amagasa to the company of the witch. A year ago, when Kiki realized that she was in love with Tombo, she thought that now everything would be easy and wonderful. But love turned out to be as difficult a test as the beginning of an independent witch life once was... Eiko Kadono wrote her first stories about Kiki in 1985. Inspired by the success and numerous literary awards in Japan, she continued the story of the young witch - to the delight of fans, among whom was the great Hayao Miyazaki, who created his 1989 animated masterpiece based on Kadono’s books. And in 2014, a full-length feature film was released. In 2018, Eiko Kadono received the Hans Christian Andersen Award for best children's writer.
