The Author of Iceland is an original, innovative novel that takes the reader on an incredible journey through the world of Icelandic culture of the last century. Hallgrim Helgason created this book based on his dream in which the Nobel laureate Halldór Laxness (1902-1998) after his death ends up in his own novel “Independent People”. Having placed the hero-narrator in similar circumstances, the author raises questions about the relationship between the writer and his work, reality and fiction, life and death. Hallgrim Helgason (b. 1959) is one of the most famous modern Icelandic writers, winner of many literary awards, holder of the Order Arts and Letters of France (2021). For the novel “The Author of Iceland” he was awarded the National Literary Prize (2001). The books “101 Reykjavik”, “Ten Housekeeping Tips for a Hitman”, “A Woman at 1000 °C”, “Sixty Kilograms of Sunlight” were published in Russian.
The text of the book was translated from the original language using an artificial intelligence program. Переклад, хоча й має деякі недоліки, не заважає насолоджуватися цим літературним витвором. Я б рекомендував цю книгу всім, хто цінує глибокі та змістовні твори, що залишають слід у душі.
