“101” is the postal code for central Reykjavik, the cold capital of Iceland. In this city, emotional discord is inevitable, like inclement weather, and in a series of empty nights, even ghosts get bored. Thirty-three-year-old Khlin lives in his mother’s apartment, receives unemployment benefits, downloads porn from the Internet, hangs out with friends in pubs and nightclubs, waits every evening for an email from the Hungarian princess and unsuccessfully fights his attraction to his own mother’s sexy girlfriend, who suddenly decided to change her sexual orientation. ...In 2000, Balthazar Kormakur successfully filmed this novel, with one of the main roles played by Victoria Abril, who became famous with Pedro Almodóvar, and the music for the film was written by Damon Albarn (Blur, Gorillaz) and Einar Benediktsson, the leader of the famous Icelandic group Sugar Cubes, in which Björk sang before. The film received the Discovery of the Year prize at the Toronto Film Festival, the Youth Jury Prize at the Locarno Film Festival and many other awards.
