“Street Diary” consists of notes that Annie Erno made in 1985–1992 about what she saw and overheard on trains, shopping centers, subways, city boulevards, train stations and squares. A snapshot of collective French life, a class- and culturally stratified society, these short scenes with the participation of random passers-by and fellow travelers, bourgeois and homeless people, saleswomen and customers were conceived as a “photographic letter of reality,” but, according to Ernault, they revealed more to her about herself than introspective keeping of a personal diary.
