In March 1923, the Berlin Regional Court heard the sensational case of the murder of the young carpenter Link. The wife of the murdered man, Ellie Link, and her mistress, Greta Bende, were found guilty. The jury heard 600 love letters written by poisoner friends. The trial of Link and Bende gave rise to a discussion in the press about the depravity of same-sex love and aroused the interest of psychoanalysts. It also interested the greatest German writer Alfred Döblin, who restored in his documentary book the dramatic story of Ellie Link, her husband and her mistress.
