The novel "The Bastard of Istanbul" presents the story of two families, Turkish and Armenian, separated by dramatic events in their homeland at the beginning of the twentieth century. None of the members of these large families even suspects that the tragedy of the past has closely connected them with invisible threads. But then an Armenian-American woman, Armanush, comes to Istanbul from San Francisco and wants to unravel the tangle of family secrets and understand herself. In Istanbul, she stays with her stepfather’s Turkish relatives, where she meets her peer, nineteen-year-old Asia. The girls quickly find a common language, despite the fact that they are separated by upbringing, education, different attitudes to historical truth... For the first time in Russian!

Історія двох сімей, турецької та вірменської, розкриває не лише їхні особисті драми, а й ширші соціально-історичні контексти, що формують їхнє життя. Автор майстерно переплітає минуле і сучасність, показуючи, як трагедії попередніх поколінь впливають на сьогодення. Персонажі, особливо Армануш і Ася, вражають своєю емоційною глибиною та розвитком, що робить їх близькими і зрозумілими читачеві. Незважаючи на деякі недоліки в перекладі, які іноді відволікають від сюжету, загальна атмосфера книги і її зміст залишають сильне враження.
