The Book of the Occupation of the Land (Il. Landnámabók) is one of the most important sources on the colonization of Iceland. The author focuses on genealogical lists of the first settlers, mostly of Norwegian origin. Despite some inaccuracies, the book is of great historical significance. It lists 400 Scandinavian settlers who landed on the shores of Iceland between 850 and 930. The lands distributed between them are geographically ordered and listed. The author indicated the boundaries of the first Icelandic settlements, gave characteristics of the settlers, outlined their biographies, and listed their ancestors and descendants up to the 11th century.
The text of the book was translated from the original language using an artificial intelligence program.
