“Looking at Other People's Suffering” (2003) is the last of Susan Sontag's books published during her lifetime. In it, the critic turns to his acclaimed work “On Photography” (1977), adding, almost thirty years later, a kind of afterword to reflections on the nature of the photographic image. This time the focus is on war photography, documentary and staged photographs of other people's suffering, their meaning and purpose.
The text of the book was translated from the original language using an artificial intelligence program. For the most part, the translation of the text is of very high quality, but in some cases, due to the imperfection of the technology, there may be incorrect phrase translations in the text, as well as single words and expressions may not be translated.
