These works represent the best that St. created. Gregory in the field of church theology. They reflected all the power of the saint’s talent. Written on various occasions and at different periods in the life of St. Gregory, they reveal to our spiritual gaze the sublime beauty of theological speculation, the talent of a polemicist and defender of church teaching from heretics, an observant writer of everyday life, giving important historical information about his era, events and persons of his time. St. Gregory’s oratorical talent, manifested in the Words, stands out in a special place. Soon after his holy death, Saint Gregory was called the “Christian Demosthenes” in honor of the famous and unsurpassed ancient orator. Many of the 45 Words presented were delivered by St. Gregory as church sermons and with their amazing power influenced the hearts and minds of their listeners. An exceptional role was played by the famous 5 Words on Theology, which largely reversed the fate of the confrontation between the Arians and the Orthodox in Constantinople in 380 and served as fertile ground for the convening of the Second Ecumenical Council in 381. The appendix contains one of the best domestic studies of the life and teachings of St. Gregory - the book of St. N.
