At this point the preface, written by the hand of Mongo, Stolypin, friend and second of M. Yu. Lermontov, ends . What follows is the manuscript of the same Stolypin, written, apparently, based on the notes of M. Yu. Lermontov himself. This manuscript was discovered by me in June 1981 in the Vatican Library.
