They said that when he approached, “even mice ran into the jungle.” Modern researchers perceive Exquemelin’s stories about the “bloodthirsty murderer” Olon with a certain degree of skepticism, since the purpose of such stories was to entertain the reading public with something out of the ordinary going out. Studying a variety of French, Spanish, Dutch and English documents, historians of piracy tried to find in them other, more reliable sources of information about this filibuster captain - a man who made amazingly daring campaigns on the shores of Cuba, Mexico, Venezuela and Honduras in the 60s of the 17th century. .
