The book is devoted to the study of the phenomenon of medievalism in Central-Eastern Europe (Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, the Baltic countries) and the Balkans. Understood as the use of medieval symbols and images to give meaning to modern processes in modern and modern times, it manifested itself in high and popular culture, literary and artistic creativity, political and national discourse, as well as in all spheres of life that use symbolism, from decorative applied arts to commercial advertising and computer games. The authors' focus is on the use of medieval concepts for the formation of national identity, in national cultures and the ideology of nationalism. The publication is addressed to specialists, but will be useful for both students and anyone interested in history. Illustrations are available only in the paper version of the book.
