The publication contains all the surviving works of the ancient Greek playwright and tragedian Sophocles, including fragments from his tragedies, preserved in quotations from other ancient authors. The translation of the tragedies was made by the wonderful Russian philologist F. F. Zelinsky, who worked during the Silver Age. The volume contains a detailed scientific apparatus that can satisfy the most demanding requirements of the reader, as well as illustrations. The editorial board of the publication includes the famous M. L. Gasparov and V. N. Yarkho; the latter also wrote part of the editorial articles for the volume.
