The new monograph by historian V. E. Molodyakov continues the series of works on French nationalism in the first half of the twentieth century and is the first comprehensive study in Russian historiography of the political and propaganda activities of the monarchical movement “Action française,” directed against Germany as a “hereditary enemy.” The author examines the ideas and actions of irreconcilable Germanophobes led by Charles Maurras in the context of the domestic and foreign policy of France and its relations with Germany in the period from Hitler’s rise to power until his defeat in the summer of 1940. The study is based on a wide range of sources, practically unknown in Russia, including materials from the author's collection.
