Strong Opinions is a collection of non-fiction prose by V. Nabokov: interviews, letters to editors of various newspapers and magazines, articles, including on entomology. Despite the apparent heterogeneity of the materials, they form a semantic unity: the author selected and re-edited for this book those interviews and articles where his aesthetic credo was most fully revealed, his literary likes and dislikes were explained, where the image of a famous writer, an aristocrat addressed to the public, arose and the snob that Nabokov worked on all his life. The ideas that developed back in the Russian period of creativity received aphoristically clear design here. Uncompromising, sometimes provocative statements about famous fellow writers, about politics or new trends in art, made in this book, were subsequently dispersed into quotations in Nabokov studies. The collection, published in 1973 in New York, comes to the Russian reader for the first time.
