For the first time in Russian - a book that Kerouac called his most beloved brainchild. This fantasy novel, written in William Burroughs' tiny Mexican apartment, doesn't just recount his childhood years in Lowell, Massachusetts; here Kerouac took a swing at his version of Goethe's Faust. The magnetic Doctor Sachs fights the world's evil in the person of the Serpent from Aztec legends, and during the struggle the line between reality and fiction becomes extremely unsteady. Jack Kerouac gave a voice to a whole generation in literature, during his short life he managed to write about 20 books of prose and poetry and became the most famous and controversial author of his time. Some branded him as a subverter of foundations, others considered him a classic of modern culture, but from his books all beatniks and hipsters learned to write - to write not what you know, but what you see, firmly believing that the world itself will reveal its nature. The novel On the Road brought Kerouac worldwide fame and became a classic of American literature; it was a story about the fate and pain of an entire generation, structured like a jazz improvisation. Several years ago, the manuscript of “On the Road” was sold at auction for almost 2.5 million dollars, and now the novel has finally found its film embodiment; The project was produced by Francis Ford Coppola (he bought the film rights many years ago). The film, which was released in 2012, starred Viggo Mortensen, Steve Buscemi, Kirsten Dunst, Amy Adams. 2012 becomes the year of Kerouac: in the same year, on his 90th birthday, the novel “Big Sur” will also receive a film adaptation. Moreover, the role of the writer himself will be played by Jean-Marc Barr, the star of Lars von Trier's films.
