If Walter Scott's prose - mainly his historical novels - is known to most Russian readers from childhood, then the same can hardly be said about his poetry, of which only the ballad "Smalholm Castle" translated by V.A. has long been known in Russia. Zhukovsky and “The Robber” in adaptations by Ivan Kozlov. The complete translation of the poem “Marmion”, begun almost forty years ago under the leadership of Tatyana Grigorievna Gnedich, has finally been published. The author accompanied the translation with notes made while working on the text. Notes by Vasily Betaki are presented at the end of the publication.
